Grants of up to US$50,000 for environmental projects provided by the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme

Within the project “Clean city with recycled e-waste" 80 containers were installed in Chisinau, and 40 in schools throughout Moldova.

The Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Small Grants Programme (SGP), implemented by UNDP Moldova, is launching today, 21 September 2020, a new call for projects proposals.

Non-governmental organizations may apply for grants for the implementation of projects in the following thematic areas:

  • Community-based conservation of threatened ecosystems and species;
  • Co-benefits of access to low carbon energy;
  • Chemicals management and waste management;
  • Catalyzing sustainable urban solutions;
  • Community-based adaptation.

The applicant (NGO) should ensure co-financing of at least 50% from the total amount of the project. The co-financing can be ensured monetary and in kind (NGO’s own contribution, and/or its partner’s, other donors, mayors, private sector, etc.): 25% should be in kind and 25% should be monetary.

Offers shall be submitted electronically to the following e-mail address: denis.parea@undp.org, titled in the message subject line as “GEF SGP, Thematic Grant 2020, [name of the applicant NGO]”.

During 2016-2019, the Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Programme funded 38 projects in the field of biodiversity protection, climate change adaptation, soil degradation, chemicals management, capacity development in the field of environmental governance, advocacy and communications. The results of these projects benefited 37,832 people, of which 5,537 women and 26,726 children.
