Nine human rights organizations on both banks of the Nistru River will promote the rights of people from vulnerable groups, thus contributing to overcoming community barriers faced by them when claiming their rights.

The assistance is offered through UNDP, in the framework of the One UN Joint Action "Cross-river support for human rights", implemented by six UN agencies in Moldova and funded by Sweden.

15 human rights organizations from both banks of the Nistru applied to the grants programme. Nine applicants were awarded grants in total amount of US$45,000.

The selected projects will focus on the involvement of society in promoting participation of people from vulnerable groups in social and economic activities, legal and advocacy training for the community of people living with HIV, as well as economic training for people with disabilities.

Grants were also offered for developing skills of elderly people in IT use, developing social community-based services for people from vulnerable groups, but also for families who care for children with disabilities. The financial assistance offered by Sweden will also enable piloting personal assistant service for children with severe disabilities and empowering people with disabilities to lead an independent way of life.

All projects will be implemented within one year.

This is the first grants programme for human rights organisations on both sides of the Nistru river organised by the One UN Joint Action funded by Sweden. The next call will be launched by the end of 2020.

The One UN Joint Action "Cross-river support for human rights" contributes to reducing inequalities among women, men and children in the Transnistrian region by empowering vulnerable groups to exercise their rights. The programme's activities are carried out in the period 2019-2022, contributing to the promotion of the commitment to human rights-oriented reforms on both banks of the Nistru river.
