“prOMotorul de ACASA” campaign will encourage people to get involved in the development of their home communities. Peresecina and Lozova Hometown Associations started the campaign, by organizing local events and engaging local leaders.

“prOMotorul de ACASA” national campaign is carried out with the support of the “Migration and Local Development” (MiDL) project, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Moldova with the financial support of the Government of Switzerland.

“We appreciate the active involvement of 16 local leaders from 13 beneficiary communities – who have accepted to act as advocates of local development, and therefore encourage their peers to participate in community affairs even though they might live far away from their birthplaces,” said Olesea Cazacu, Programme Analyst at UNDP Moldova.

Thus, people of Lozova nominated as local advocates: Mr. Victor Ambroci, director of the “Spiru Haret” High School of Chisinau and Ms. Olga Ciolacu, singer, a Lozova native herself. Mr. Ambroci and Ms. Ciolacu, with the support of 50 students from the “Spiru Haret” High School of Chisinau and the “Metropolitan Nestor Vornicescu” High School of Lozova, decorated the village’s center for the Village Festival and participated in a unique artistic program.

“This experience is rewarding. I am thrilled to share my childhood memories with my peers from Lozova and the students from two high schools, who socialized and learned so much more about our traditions. I am positive we will be able to change things for the better in the Republic of Moldova,” says Victor Ambroci, director of the “Spiru Haret” High School of Chisinau.

Peresecina Hometown Association, in turn, organized the “Give Colour to our Primary School” community event. Approximately 400 meters of metal fence in the Peresecina Primary School’s perimeter were painted.

“The contribution of each and every citizen is important, as things done together are appreciated and last longer. We hope that through our example other communities will be encouraged to develop their home communities,” said Oleg Costin, president of the Peresecina Hometown Association.

More than 100 volunteers participated in the event, among them representatives of local authorities, Hometown Association, students and teachers, as well as village residents.

“Such level of participation is impressive and a total premiere for Peresecina. For the first time ever, people born here contributed with approx. 5,000 USD for the primary school’s roof repairs. We appreciate the role of the Hometown Association as a community player,” said Valentina Buzu, Deputy Mayor of Peresecina.

“prOMotorul de ACASA” national campaign will take place from May to August 2018. The campaign’s local advocates, well-known people of integrity from the Republic of Moldova, will be the protagonists of short spots filmed in their villages of origin or hometowns, in which they will remember about their time spent there, and will organize activities to show the communities how pleasant and necessary it is to nurture and do good things for the place of origin.

The campaign will culminate with a motivational song, the lyrics of which will be selected following a competition launched on social media with the participation of locals from the 38 MiDL partner communities.

The “Migration and Local Development” project is implemented in 38 communities, which were selected through competition.
