Chisinau Circus has a 3D model, created with a laser scanner

December 13, 2019

Chisinau Circus has a 3D model, which will contribute to preserving the building. The digital copy of the Circus was created with a high precision laser scanner, and will be used in the renovation project, supported by European Union and implemented by UNDP Moldova.

The scanner has measured distances between different elements of the structure, with millimetric accuracy. Computer generated images based on these data allow spatial analysis of the building.

Also, the model could be used, for example, for creation of a virtual museum of the Circus.

Works at the Circus were part of the technical expertise commissioned by EU Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP. The expertise also showed that block A, where the big arena is situated - can be renovated.

Preliminary studies, commissioned by the administration of the institution, were conducted in 2018 and 2019. The design phase of the renovation project will follow. During this phase experts point out the exact works that have to be done. The European Union has allocated for the full project about 2 million Euros with more than 1.5 million Euros for works which should start in June 2020.

The Ministry of Education, Culture and Research expressed its intention to cooperate for the reconstruction of the Circus.

The Chisinau Circus renovation could be open again for the public by the end of 2021.
