    On the European Parks Day, the first ecotourism route was officially opened in the future National Park Orhei

    The first ecotourism route, which connects two cultural-historical values: the House-Museum "Alexandru Donici" and Curchi Monastery, was inaugurated in the future territory of National Park Orhei. Previously, this route was known only from locals' sayings. With UNDP support, the route was marked with information boards, describing the cultural and historical values and the map of this route, as well as the natural heritage of the first National Park. Also, the locals and tourists will benefit of appropriate leisure places, where they can admire nature in this area.

    Forensic documentation of torture, an important procedure in combating the torture phenomena

    Independent national and international experts, lawyers, representatives of state institutions working in prevention and combating torture and forensic experts from both banks of Nistru River discussed during a national conference the situation of efficient forensic documentation of torture and other ill-treatment cases. The event was organised in the framework of “Strengthening the forensic examination of torture and other forms of ill-treatment in Moldova” project, financed by the European Union and implemented by UNDP, in partnership with the OSCE Mission to Moldova and the Rehabilitation Centre of Torture Victims "Memoria".

    The smallest village from Gagauzia will heat its public institutions with biomass-based energy

    The smallest village from ATU Gagauz Yeri will be prepared for winter. The public institutions from Carbalia will be heated during the next winter with briquettes , modern biomass-based fuel. The launch of the heating systems in the community center and the kindergarten from Carbalia was organized on Saturday, May 19, during the Europe Day in ATU Gagauz Yeri.

    Message by UNDP Administrator, Helen Clark on the international day against homophobia and transphobia

    Today is the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO). It commemorates the World Health Organisation’s decision in 1990 to remove homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. That was indeed a milestone, and since then there has been much progress. Last year, the Human Rights Council passed their first resolution ever on “Human rights, sexual orientation and gender identity”. An historic study documenting discriminatory laws and practices and acts of violence against individuals based on their sexual orientation and gender identity was produced by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and debated by the Council.

    Parliament adopted the National Decentralization Strategy

    After nearly two years of debates and public consultations, the National Decentralization Strategy was adopted by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova and will enter into force upon its publication in the Official Monitor. The draft Strategy was developed and initially approved by the Government.
