On Sunday, classical music sounded again between the ancient towers of Tighina fortress. To the delight of music lovers, the National Youth Orchestra of Moldova (MNYO) returned to the fortress with La La Play tour. This time, at the invitation of the hosts. As in 2017, the event was organised with the European Union funding in the framework of the Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by the UNDP.

After the huge success in 2017, the MNYO tour was invited for the second time to Tighina fortress. Over 2,000 of people dedicated their evening to this unique event for both banks of the River Nistru.

“To be here in this historical monument with our partners from Tiraspol at their invitation, with those musicians and with this public of music lover is a great honour. It is the proof that with respect, understanding and time, building confidence is bearing fruits and can make a difference. The EU is very pride to help this renew cooperation between both banks and as well to participate in the near future to the restauration of this unique historical monument which is the Tighina fortress,” mentioned Fabien Schaeffer, project manager at the EU Delegation in the Republic od Moldova.

At current edition of La La Play tour, 16 young musicians, journalists, photographs and producers travelled more than 2,000 km throughout the Republic of Moldova, Romania and Ukraine to bring the classical music to 12 locations.

“The tour aims to promote important social subjects by playing classical music where it was never played before. We visited Tighina fortress for the first time the last year. At the current edition we made an exception at the hosts’ initiative. It is more than pleasant to realise that music builds a beautiful connection between the two banks,” mentioned Andriano Marian, MNYO leader.

The audience was much larger compared to last year. People enjoyed the songs of famous composers: Eugen Doga's waltz “Gramophone”, fragments of the Edward Grieg’s “Peer Gynt” or Claude Debussy’s “Claire de Lune”.

“I am very happy that the MNYO returned to the fortress. This concert charged me with positive emotions,” said Tatiana Sergheeva, who came to the concert from Tiraspol, together with her family.

The European Union funded Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme implemented by UNDP contributes to enhancing confidence between people living on both banks of the Nistru River by involving the representatives of local authorities, business environment, and civil society in joint projects.
