After a long time, inhabitants of Carmanova village, left bank of the Nistru River, celebrated Saint Patron’s day at local House of Culture, refurbished in the framework of the EU-funded Support to Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by UNDP Moldova. Artistic bands from the right bank of the Nistru River joined the celebration.
The European Union has offered financial support of 150,795 Euro to renovate the building. It was built in the ‘70s and has never been repaired until now. The heating system failed back in ‘90s. So, it is the first time in 28 years when the House of Culture hosts celebrations in winter-time.
“Under the name of Neudorf, Carmanova was founded more than 200 years ago by German people mainly from Germany and France (Alsace), but also by families from Poland and Hungary. Hence, this renovation of the house of culture in Carmanova has a special significance for the European Union and its Member States: it is a symbol of the long common history that we have with this territory and its inhabitants, and it is a concrete proof that this history is continuing day-by-day, through our common work for the improvement of the living conditions of the population,” mentioned Fabien Schaeffer, project manager at the European Union Delegation in the Republic of Moldova.
The building was connected to water supply or sewerage and has a modern heating system. “Now, thanks to a constant thermal regime, the paintings, costumes and other items are well preserved. There are ten creative teams engaged in producing: paintings in kinusaiga Japanese style, “sand art” bottles, and many others. Canto and dancing activities as well as concerts are organised in a comfortable ambience,” notes Natalia Stoian, head of the House of Culture.
“We’ve invited bands from the right bank and hope to extend this collaboration. Now, with the comfort we have, everything is possible,” she mentioned.
“We are the same people with the same goals and problems, regardless of where we live – on the left or on the right bank of the Nistru River,” said Maria Balaban, a villager from Dorotcaia, Dubasari district.
Villagers are thankful for the refurbishment. “I am not worried anymore. Coaches are great here, it’s warm and nice”, said Vitaly, a 9-years old girl’s father. Marina, his daughter, attends drawing lessons.
The Carmanova House of Culture is one of over 80 infrastructural projects renovated in the framework of the EU-funded “Support to confidence building measures programme”, implemented by UNDP Moldova. The Programme contributes to improvement of confidence between people from both banks of the Nistru River by involving them in joint projects.
