Artists and craftspeople from 15 communities along the Nistru’s cliffs met on Saturday in Rascov village, on the left bank. The festival “Cultural ferry Rascov – Vadul Rascov” took place at the Cultural Hall, renovated with EU and Polish AID support in the framework of the "Support to confidence building measures” (SCBM) Programme, implemented by UNDP.
Holidays got a completely different meaning for the inhabitants of Rascov village, since the Cultural Hall was renovated. The European Union offered over 244,000 Euro for the institution’s refurbishment and Polish AID – 30,000 Euro. The building that has over 50 years can now host large-scale cultural events, as the ‘’Cultural ferry Rascov – Vadul Rascov” festival.
“It is very important that people from both banks of the Nistru River will have the possibility to meet in such locations, organize joint events and in this way, strengthen their cooperation," mentioned Marco Gemmer, deputy head of operations section at the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova.
“Now, the Rascov village has the possibility to host events of different format, and the fact that people from both banks of the Nistru River can meet here is gratifying," said Polish ambassador in the Republic of Moldova, Bartłomiej Zdaniuk.
“The refurbishment of the Cultural House brought a new breath to the life of the village. It was the decision of the whole community to ask for funding specifically for this object, and it was a wise decision," said Oleg Bersadschii, head of the community.
Photo and paintings exhibitions as well as tours at the Rascov’s tourist attractions were organized during the festival. The village has more tourist attractions: the spring “Paniska Krynitsa”, the “Red rock”, a Jewish cemetery of about three hundred years. There is a Catholic church in the village, built in the 17th century. The ruins of the Orthodox church “Pocrovskaya” dating from 1740, as well as the ruins of a synagogue, built in the middle of the 18th century, are preserved here.
"The festival was organized to strengthen cultural, tourist and friendship relations between about 15 villages on both banks, located along the Nistru’s cliffs, starting with Soldanesti district and Camenca, up to Dubasari," mentioned Alina Ciobanu, coordinator of the public association "Casa de acasa".
On Saturday, June 9, a similar festival will take place in the village of Vadul-Rascov, Soldanesti district. The events are organized within the framework of the project “Treasures of the Nistru Shores" implemented by the public association “Casa de acasa" from Vadul-Rascov, Soldanesti district in partnership with Rascov village group of initiative.
This is one of 30 partnerships funded by the European Union within the framework of the SCBM Programme to increase cooperation and confidence between both banks of the Nistru River.
