In partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova, UNDP Moldova awards local trademarks involved in the implementation of 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda within the competition “Trademark of the Year”.

It is the 15th edition of the competition, with a total of 1260 participating companies. This year, four new nominations were introduced, including “Important contribution to sustainable development’.

Under the new category, companies that promote sustainable development by reducing the consumption of energy and water, sustainable waste management, efforts to retain staff and other relevant initiatives are awarded.

“The role of the private sector in delivering on Agenda 2030 is a critical, instrumental and decisive one. UNDP will continue partnering with and supporting the private sector in exploring new ways of engagement around sustainable development and advancement of prosperity, peace and stability in Moldova”, said Dafina Gercheva, the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova.

The category “Important contribution to sustainable development” includes the awards Golden Mercury and Golden Medal.

The Golden Mercury was awarded to the trademarks LACTIS, PROGRAIN ORGANIC and CONFORT for achievements in energy efficiency, food safety and waste management, respectively.

The Golden Medal was awarded to the trademarks STUDIO WEBMASTER and KARCHER for promoting environmentally friendly equipment, supporting a healthy lifestyle of employees, energy efficiency and other practices in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

“The award matters to us a lot, as much work has been done. We have implemented energy management in the enterprise, we constantly monitor the energy consumption in the halls and departments and intervene when deviations are recorded. Reduced consumption leads to lower spending, while the environment has only to gain,” says Gheorghe Angheluta, General Manager of LACTIS.

The category “Important contribution to sustainable development” was launched under the initiative “Private Sector Engagement for Sustainable Development Goals” of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The project is funded by the Impact Investment Facility of the Regional UNDP Office for Europe and Central Asia.

The initiative aims at engaging the private sector in exchange of knowledge and funds mobilization to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. Innovative models to address key challenges faced by the people of the Republic of Moldova are tested, beneficial both for private sector and vulnerable groups.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), known as Global Goals represent a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

The UN Moldova supports the nationalization process of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Republic of Moldova has committed to achieve 106 targets for a better life by 2030.
