About 150 sportsmen from both sides of the River Nistru have participated in the volleyball contest “Friendship Bowl 2016”

Sport teams from the both banks of the Nistru River came to Dubasari to test their performance in playing volleyball at a bowl organized at its 13rd edition. This year the topic of the contest “Friendship Bowl 2016” was “Preserving friendship through sport” and it served as an excellent opportunity to develop sustainable relationships among the participants. The sport event was organized with the financial support of the European Union through the Support to Confidence Building Programme, implemented by UNDP.

The contest was attended by fourteen volleyball teams from Cosnita, Molovata Noua, Ustia, Dorotcaia, Pirita, Vadul lui Voda, Cimislia, Criuleni, Radeni (Straseni), Grigoriopol, Tibuleuca, Krasnyi Vinogradari, Dnestrovsk – communities from the both banks of the Nistru River, as well as from Krijopol, Ukraine. The trophy was won by the team from Tibuleuca village from the left bank of the Nistru River.

“The event of today is much more than a sport contest, as it has brought together sportsmen from both banks of the Nistru River. We are happy that five out of the 14 teams come from the left bank, and one is from Ukraine”, mentioned the President of Dubasari district, Grigore Policinschi, when awarding the trophies.

“There are winners in sport, but no losers. This contest convinced us that sport unites us, and that regardless of the bank of the Nistru River we live on, we have the same interests”, noted Andrei Darie, Manager of the European Programme for Confidence Building.

The sport contest was organized with the financial support of the European Union, through the Support to Confidence Building Programme, implemented by UNDP. The Programme contributes to increasing confidence between the inhabitants of both banks of the Nistru River, by creating cooperation opportunities among local authorities, business community and civil society.
