Ribnita and Bender hospitals to be renovated with the EU and UNDP support
The emergency medical care, registration department and the child intensive care units in Bender as well as Ribnita maternity hospital will be renovated and provided with the necessary equipment through the financial assistance of the „Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme funded by the EU and co-funded and implemented by UNDP.
The refurbishment works at both institutions will start at the end of this year and will last approximately 5 months. These medical institutions will benefit not only from financial support, but also from technical and logistic assistance by the EU-UNDP Programme. Thus, the 340 thousand dollars investment will be used for all buildings’ renovation and refurbishment. Another 155 thousand USD of the investment will be used to purchase modern medical equipment for the child intensive care department and the maternity hospital of Ribnita.
“This project shows how cross-river cooperation can lead to concrete benefits to the citizens, in the field of health but not only. Under the SCBM Programme, the EU –together with UNDP- will continue supporting such initiatives owned by local communities from both banks of the Nistru River", said Hubert Duhot, Attaché-Project Manager, EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova.
These two medical institutions are part of the 40 social infrastructure improvement projects on both banks of the Nistru River, funded by the EU and UNDP within the „Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme, out of which 18 infrastructure sites have been already renovated.
With the support of the EU-UNDP Programme, the paediatrics department of Criuleni district hospital and the general surgery department of Rezina district hospital were refurbished during this year. It is also planned to refurbish the Family Health Care Centre in Molovata Noua and to provide medical equipment for the health care centres in Varnita and Cocieri. Until 2015, over 40 kindergartens, schools, social and medical centres, roads, water supply and sanitation networks will be refurbished within the EU-UNDP Programme, which has a direct impact on the improvement of living standards and relations between over 120 thousand people on both banks of the Nistru River.
Along with the social infrastructure projects, the EU-UNDP Programme provides financial and technical support to carry out activities involving people on both banks of the Nistru River in four key areas: business, civil society, health care development and environment protection. The EU-UNDP „Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme is implemented during 2012-2015 with an overall budget of 10,600,000 EURO provided by the European Union (9,500,000 Euro) and UNDP (1,100,000 Euro).
