Dec 13, 2012

The „Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme, financed by the European Union, co-funded and implemented by UNDP, organized grants competition aimed at increasing confidence between people living on both banks of Nistru River.

On November 15, 2012 the second round of the grants competition ended, to which 116 project proposals have been submitted by non-governmental organizations. The project proposals will be evaluated by a special committee consisting of representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UDNP), Delegation of the European Union to Moldova, the Government of the Republic of Moldova and the international organisations acting in the Republic of Moldova. The projects will be selected based on the pre-established criteria set in the applicant’s guide according to two streams of grants: grants for organisations with extensive experience in projects’ implementation and small grants. In the first case, projects will be selected from the following areas: mass media, arts and culture, joint research and analysis and promotion of democratic values. Within the second stream of grants, the focus will be on selecting original projects, containing elements of confidence building between both banks of Nistru River, and which respond to the real needs and priorities of the communities they represent. The projects approved for funding will be implemented during 2013.

According to Olga Vasiliev, Project Officer / Civil Society Development, SCBM Programme, 12 NGOs from both banks of Nistru River were selected as a result of the first round of grants competition which are implementing now joint projects with the assistance of the SCBM Programme. “The successes achieved determined us to launch a new round of grants for civil society. Through this competition, the SCBM Programme aims to increase confidence between Chisinau and Tiraspol through common socio-economic projects”, Olga Vasiliev said.

Funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in Moldova, “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme aims at increasing confidence between both banks of Nistru River with active involvement and participation of local authorities, the civil society, business communities and other stakeholders, as well as through ensuring economic and social development of local communities.
