High-level experts from both banks of the Nistru River learned about the functioning of European institutions
14 high level experts, including officials from executive and elected authorities from both sides of the Nistru, members of the business community, and representatives of civil society learned about the role and principles of the European Union (EU) institutions and European policies during a study tour to Brussels and Berlin.

During three days, 20 journalists from Balti, Ialoveni, Comrat, Tiraspol, Bender and Dubasari learned about online journalism during a training organized by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC), in partnership with Media Center from Tiraspol, with the assistance of the “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme (SCBM), financed by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

An international conference on decentralization reform started today in Chisinau which brought together 140 representatives of local and central public administration, civil society, development partners, as well as national and international experts. During two days, participants will analyse the experience of European countries in the field of local public administration, assess the implementation of the National Decentralization Strategy and debate on the sector action plans of the decentralization reform for areas such as education, finance, property, etc.

A table tennis tournament for para-athletes form both banks of the Nistru River took place in Bender which brought together more than 28 athletes with locomotor system diseases form Bender, Chisinau, Tiraspol and Dubasari. Organized by the Bender-based foundation “The world of equal opportunities” («Мир Равных Возможностей») in partnership with another Transnistrian NGO “Mercy” («Милосердье») and two Chisinau-based NGOs “Invasport” and “Motivatia”, the event is part of the “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme, funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Orange Foundation in Moldova donated today an ultramodern Roentgen mobile device to the National Institute for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Chisinau.

As of this week, more than 30 schools, kindergartens and community centres from the Republic of Moldova will be heated with alternative energy from biomass. Rural public institutions have modern biomass heating systems thanks to the investments made by Energy and Biomass Project, funded by the European Union, and co-funded and implemented by UNDP.

25 economic entities from the left bank of the Nistru River learned about the benefits of current trade regimes during a seminar organized in Ribnita by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova (CCI) in the framework of the „Support to Confidence Building Measures” Programme, funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by UNDP in Moldova. Entrepreneurs from metallurgical, baking and textile industries from Ribnita, Camenca, Tiraspol and other localities from the left bank of the Nistru River attended the workshop.

Moldova’s Central Electoral Commission (CEC) and Romania’s Permanent Electoral Authority as well as civil society representatives from both countries participated in an international workshop entitled “Gender and Elections”. One million Euro are provided by the European Union for the purchase of biomass fuel production equipment through the leasing mechanism
Today, Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar, Minister of Economy, jointly with the Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Moldova, Narine Sahakyan, have signed the document aimed at launching a new Programme, totalling EUR1 million, provided for lease purchase, by instalment, of biomass fuel production equipment. The money is provided by the European Union, through the Energy and Biomass Project, financed by the EU and co-financed and implemented by UNDP Moldova.

700 entrepreneurs from the left bank of the Nistru River benefitted from the trainings organized at Tiraspol Business School; another 600 will benefit over the next two years
„In less than one year I managed to set up my own business, employ more than 15 persons and expand my work area. It was possible only due to the knowledge acquired and the skills developed within the Business School. As I am a lawyer by profession, here, I have actually understood the real meaning of the business world", said Maria Redecop, a 24 years old entrepreneur, during the round table organized in Tiraspol by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Transnistria.

More than 60 pupils and teachers from 10 schools from the Transnistrian region will attend a series of training programs where they will learn how to create a blog where their school activity will be posted. These trainings are being realized by the Independent Journalism Center (IJC) with the assistance of the “Support to Confidence Building Measures” Program (SCBM). The first two teams of pupils and teachers from the Transnistrian region have already attended the training in blogging and have created two blogs for their schools.

The Educational Initiative aimed at promoting renewables and energy efficiency has been launched in nine new Districts. More than 2,000 of 7th and 8th-grade school students from Glodeni, Donduseni, Soroca, Rascani, Soldanesti, Rezina, Orhei, Ungheni and Anenii Noi Districts will learn during this school year that energy is embedded in everything surrounding us, i.e. the Sun, wind, plants, water, and they will be taught the secret of efficient energy consumption. The Educational Initiative will cover the communities envisaged to connect their public institutions to biomass-fuelled heating systems within Moldova Energy and Biomass Project.

The forensic medical personnel from the Republic of Moldova trained in implementation of Istanbul protocol standards
In the period September-October 2012, about 70 forensic doctors, medical personnel from the detention places and penitentiary institutions and from emergency hospitals are trained for the first time in forensic examination and documentation of torture and other ill-treatment cases in accordance with the provisions of Instanbul Protocol. The trainings are organized in the framework of the project "Strengthening the forensic examination of torture and other forms of ill-treatment in Moldova", financed by the European Union and co-financed and implemented by United Nations Development Programme in Moldova.
