To achieve this goal, the Programme is engaging local public authorities, entrepreneurs, civil society actors and other partners on both sides of the Nistru River in joint activities that strengthen, regularize and intensify interaction between people across the river, aiming to establish this interaction as a norm.

  • Building Institutional Capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European IntegrationThe project aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MFAEI) in the process of achieving its European Integration goals and commitments.

  • Moldova Democracy ProgrammeMoldova Democracy ProgrammeThe Programme focuses on strengthening the institutional capacity of the Parliament and Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Moldova, improving their main functions and entrenching gender and human rights aspects in formal political process.

  • Strengthening the National Statistical System Strengthening the National Statistical System The project aims to strengthen the national statistical system through improvement of collection, dissemination and use of socio-economic statistical data. It helps to harmonise official statistics with international standards as well as improve the availability, quality, and use of disaggregated statistical data for participatory policy-making.

  • Strengthening Institutional Capacities of the Ministry of Interior to Fight Crime The project aims to build the capacities of the Ministry of Interior in fighting and preventing all forms of crime through integration of the intelligence analysis function into the work of the Police and strengthening the capacities in the area of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) control and management.

  • EU High Level Policy Advice Mission EU High Level Policy Advice Mission This Mission is the response to the Government of the Republic of Moldova request addressed to the European Union for provision of assistance for democratic reforms and acceleration of political association and further economic association between EU and Moldova.

  • EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine The Mission is seeking to make a sustainable contribution to the development of border-management procedures that meet European Union standards and serve the legitimate needs of Moldovan and Ukrainian citizens, travelers, and trade, which in turn enhances regional security and supports economic development.

  • Mainstreaming Migration into Development he project aims to support the Government to systematically integrate migration in the development planning in order to maximize the benefits of migration and reduce the negative impacts of migration on economic and human development.

  • Human Rights Protection and PromotionHuman Rights Protection and PromotionThe project is a joint endeavor of the UN Country Team which aims to consolidate and support the efforts to strengthen human rights in Moldova.

  • Support to Justice Sector Reform The overall objective of the project is to strengthen and support the comprehensive efforts to reform the justice sector in the Republic of Moldova in order to increase the independence, accountability, impartiality, efficiency and transparency of justice system in line with the Justice Sector Reform Strategy (2011 – 2016) and its Action Plan.

  • Strengthening National Capacities to Protect the Most Vulnerable from Torture The project aims to contribute to the prevention of torture and fighting against impunity on the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova, including Transnistrian region, especially in respect of the most vulnerable women and men with psycho-social and intellectual disabilities in mental health facilities.

  • Women in Politics in MoldovaWomen in Politics in MoldovaBoosting women’s political participation and decision-making is fundamental for democracy and essential for achieving sustainable development in Moldova. A UNDP - UN Women initiative funded by the Government of Sweden, the Women in Politics programme aims to increase the voice and the participation of women in political life in Moldova.

  • Moldova Social Innovation HubMoldova Social Innovation HubThe project aims to establish a Social Innovation Hub, which will act as a multilateral platform to engage actors from different sectors (public, private, non-profit, etc.) to seek and experiment with innovative approaches to the society’s problems.

  • Strengthening capacity of National Integrity CommissionThe overall objective of the project is to contribute to strengthening institutional and functional capacity of the National Integrity Commission (NIC) so that this institution becomes able to ensure integrity, transparency and objectivity within the public sector and support the national corruption prevention efforts in the Republic of Moldova.

  • Supporting National Human Rights Institutions as per International Treaty Bodies and UPR RecommendationsThe overall project's goal is to contribute to the effective protection and promotion of human rights, equality and non-discrimination in the Republic of Moldova with particular attention to women, minorities, marginalised and vulnerable groups.

  • Support to Police Reform in the Republic of MoldovaThe overall objective of the project is to strengthen and support the comprehensive efforts in police reform in the Republic of Moldova. The project seeks to further strengthen the capacities of national stakeholders in specific areas with the focus on the tangible and visible results both for the target groups involved and the broader public.

  • Strengthening Rule of Law and Human Rights Protection in MoldovaThe overall objective of the project is to strengthen the rule of law and human rights protection in the Republic of Moldova in-line with international human rights standards, Justice Sector Reform Strategy (2011 – 2016) and its Action Plan, and National Human Rights Action Plan (2011-2014) and mainstreaming human rights based approach, equality, gender issues and inclusion.

  • Construction of the Palanca Jointly Operated Border Crossing PointThe overall objective of the project is to create from the ground a jointly operated border crossing point at Palanca, on the territory of Moldova. The new crossing point will be built respecting all EU standards and principles on border control administration, ensuring improved conditions for safe and transparent business and trade, movement of people and goods across the border.

Environment and Energy

  • Moldova Energy and Biomass Project (Phase 2)Moldova Energy and Biomass Project (Phase 2)The Moldova Energy and Biomass Project aims to contribute to a more secure, competitive and sustainable energy production in the Republic of Moldova from biomass sources, the most readily available renewable energy source in the country.

  • Improving Coverage and Management Effectiveness of the Protected Area System The Protected Area System (PAS) aims to enhance the coverage and management effectiveness of the protected area system of Moldova by piloting - within the broader framework of the National Environmental Network - the establishment of the first National Park in Moldova, and by strengthening the capacities at the systemic, institutional and individual levels to establish and manage a representative protected area system.

  • National Biodiversity Planning National Biodiversity Planning The project supports Moldova in fulfilling its obligations under the Convention for Biological Diversity. It focuses on developing strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity in line with the 2011-2020 Strategic Plan of the Convention and Aichi Targets, as well as on integration of biodiversity conservation concerns into relevant sectorial and cross-sectoral plan, programmes and policies.

  • Environmental Fiscal Reform Environmental Fiscal Reform The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Environment to improve the existing legal and regulatory framework on pollution charges system, promote eco-technologies and improved subsidies in the energy and agriculture sectors which have positive effects on the economic entities and population at large.

  • Clima East Moldova: Climate change mitigation and ecosystem-based adaptation in Orhei National ParkClima East Moldova: Climate change mitigation and ecosystem-based adaptation in Orhei National ParkThe project is responding to the main biodiversity challenges in the Orhei National Park area (33,792 ha) and its buffer zone such as vulnerability to climate change, loss of biodiversity and forest area, deep soil erosion and landslides, pasture degradation and low grazing capacity of existing pastures.

  • Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) Phase-out Management PlanHydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) Phase-out Management PlanMoldova is party to the Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (Vienna, March 22, 1985) and Montreal Protocol (Montreal, September 16, 1987). As of 1996 and since 2007, the country has committed to gradual phase-out of ozone depleting substances (ODS) such as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) mostly because of their high Global Warming Potential (GWP) and the significant climate benefits this would generate.

  • Disaster and Climate Risk Reduction in MoldovaDisaster and Climate Risk Reduction in MoldovaMoldova’s economy, population, and environment are highly exposed and vulnerable to natural hazards. Climate change is expected to amplify the exposure to climate and disaster risks and to hydro-meteorological hazards. The Disaster and Climate Risk Reduction project aims to help reduce disaster and climate risks in Moldova through development of national and local risk management capacities.

  • Climate Change Adaptation Planning Process in MoldovaThe project aims to ensure that Moldova has the system and capacities in place for medium to long term adaptation planning and budgeting contributing to reduced vulnerability of the population and key sectors to the impacts of climate change.

  • ESCO Moldova“ESCO Moldova - Transforming the market for Urban Energy Efficiency in Moldova by introducing Energy Service Companies” project objective is to create a functioning, sustainable and effective ESCO market in Moldova by converting existing energy service provider companies into ESCO companies, as the basis for scaling up mitigation efforts in the whole municipal building sector in Moldova, leading to CO2 emission reductions by implementing energy performance contracts.

  • Moldova Energy and Biomass Project (Phase 1)Moldova Energy and Biomass Project (Phase 1)The Energy and Biomass Project aims to contribute to a more secure, competitive and sustainable energy production in the Republic of Moldova.

  • Biodiversity mainstreaming projectBiodiversity in Moldova struggle permanent threats in the result of human encroachment through land conversion; soil erosion; pollution; non-native and/ or invasive species; unsustainable grazing; habitat fragmentation because of infrastructure development; illegal logging, collection of rare plants, hunting and fishing; and climate change. Biodiversity mainstreaming project aims to enhance the effective biodiversity management outside Protected Areas in order to maintain the ecological integrity of Moldova’s ecosystems.

UNDP Gender Equality Silver Seal

UNDP Moldova received Gender Equality Silver Seal, as far as contributed to gender equality national goals, in particular the office actively worked with the Ministry of Justice to enact the “Law of Ensuring Equality”, and supporting integration of the gender perspective in local development and decentralization processes in Moldova. The office has made very good progress in the development of a comprehensive management system for gender mainstreaming, in creating an enabling environment for gender equality, and the office has achieved internal parity.

The Gender Equality Seal is adapted by UNDP from the Certification programme for private and public organizations to recognize good performance of UNDP Country Offices/Units to deliver transformational gender equality results.
